Wedemark, Germany-based Sennheiser, a manufacturer of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems, said that their new HD 800 premium headphones have won the EISA Award presented by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA).

 

In the category of European Audio Awards, the HD 800 “impressed” the international jury with its “innovative transducer principle” and the product won the title of “European Headphone 2009-2010.”  

“With the HD 800, we have come closer than any other manufacturer to reproducing sound in such a natural and lifelike way as possible,” said Maurice Quarré, product manager for consumer electronics at Sennheiser.

 

Some of the qualities that characterize HD 800 include brilliant trebles, precise bass and a particularly spatial sound image and a frequency response that ranges from 6 to 51,000 Hz, officials said.

 

The sound properties of the headphones are supported by selected materials that the EISA jury noted were low resonance and contributed to the clear reproduction.

 

Also included are high-quality plastic ear cups, a metal-plastic sandwich for the headband and high-precision gauze made of stainless steel which holds the transducers.

 

The EISA jury, which comprises of 50 representatives from European special interest magazines, said, “Here is a new top-of-the-range model from one of the renowned headphone manufacturers. The challenge was to create a large diaphragm, essential for powerful bass reproduction, while avoiding unwanted resonances which result in distortion.”

 

The EISA Awards are presented every year for products from the fields of photography, video, audio and home theatre, in-car electronics and mobile devices.
