Chinese Handset Makers Show Strong Growth with Low Cost Android Phones
Data from ABI Research's "Mobile Device Market Share Tracker" shows that 150 million smartphones were shipped in the fourth quarter, representing a record high penetration of 36 percent of the 409 million total handsets shipped worldwide. As per the market watcher's report, Apple was the star this quarter with 37 million iPhones shipped for a sequential growth rate of 117 percent, 128 percent quarter-over-quarter. Consequently, based on the results, Apple took the number one spot in the smartphone market for this quarter and the year.
