Linux Foundation Adds New Members to Board

The Linux Foundation has elected new members to its board—including Linux and open-source expert Larry Augustin, Advanced Micro Device’s Chris Schlaeger and Texas Instrument’s Eric Thomas.
Further, Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu (News - Alert), has been re-elected as an individual member to the board. James Bottomley was also re-elected as the Technical Advisory Board’s (TAB’s) representative. TAB is a collection of Linux kernel community developers.
“We're very pleased that our board continues to comprise such distinguished contributors to the Linux platform," said Jim Zemlin, executive director of The Linux Foundation, in a statement.
The organization described Larry Augustin as an “angel investor,” with a special interest in technology ventures. He was the CEO of VA Linux, from the time he founded it in 1993, till 2002. The company is now called SourceForge.
James Bottomley, the Technical Advisory Board representative, maintains the SCSI subsystem, the MCA subsystem, and the Linux Voyager port and the 53c700 driver.
Chris Schlaeger currently holds the title of Director of the Operating System Research Center at AMD (News - Alert). Before his stint at AMD, he was a VP of Engineering for Novell and SUSE.
Mark Shuttleworth has been elected as an individual representative to the foundation for the second time. He is founder of the popular Debian-based Linux version Ubuntu. This distribution has both desktop and enterprise server editions.
Eric Thomas of Texas Instruments (News - Alert) has experience in mobile handsets and their design issues. He has been fundamental to the implementation of Linux in Texas Instrument’s software strategy, especially for those handsets that are totally Linux based.
Other Linux Foundation board members currently serving terms include: Alan Clark (News - Alert), Novell; Wim Coekaerts, Oracle; Masahiro Date, Fujitsu; Frank Fanzilli; Doug Fisher, Intel; Dan Frye, IBM; Hisashi Hashimoto, Hitachi; Christine Martino, HP; Brian Pawlowski, NetApp; Tsugikazu Shibata, NEC; and Christy Wyatt, Motorola (News - Alert).
