Brocade Intros Brocade NetIron CER 2000 Series Router
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
Brocade (News - Alert), a developer of networking solutions that optimize information connectivity, has unveiled the new Brocade NetIron CER 2000 Series compact multi-protocol label switching, or “MPLS,” router that features their hardware-based routing capacity in a 1U form factor.
According to company officials, the Brocade NetIron CER 2000 Series routers are purpose-built for high-performance Ethernet edge routing and MPLS applications.
Service providers are looking for means to bring down their operational costs while at the same time increase revenue streams through over-the-top services. The new router will help these providers save on space, power, and cooling while extending wire-speed IP and MPLS services to the network edge without compromising performance. Now service providers can more broadly, rapidly, and cost-effectively deploy high-margin business virtual private network, or “VPN,” and IP voice, video and data services and also reduce their cost per megabit.
The NetIron CER 2000 is available in 24- and 48-port 1 Gigabit Ethernet, or “GbE,” copper and hybrid fiber configurations with two optional 10 GbE uplink ports. All the ports are capable of forwarding IP and MPLS packets at wire speed without oversubscription for ensuring high performance. The device consumes less than 5 watts/Gbps of power but can enable service providers push up to 136 Gbps of triple-play services.
The solution is optimal for use as a Carrier Ethernet/Metro edge router, an MPLS Provider Edge router, or as a high-capacity border router for small data centers and enterprise branch offices with Ethernet connectivity.
Marc Randall (News - Alert), senior vice president of products and solutions at Brocade has commented that bandwidth needs, applications, and user numbers are increasing, while provider budgets are flattening or declining. A high-density, MPLS-enabled compact router, such as the Brocade NetIron CER 2000, is an often-requested addition to their product line that meets a clear market need.
The company has stated that the NetIron CER 2000 will be available in the first quarter CY 2010 in six models, including fiber and copper configurations and has a base price of $12,495 USD.
Recently, Laurus Technologies was selected by Brocade to deliver extraordinary networks and Terminix picked Brocade Layer 3 switching solution.
