Motorola will deploy its home and networks mobility business for Vinaphone, a subsidiary of Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group. According to the contract, Vinaphone will now be able to provide high speed mobile data services in northern Viet Nam including key areas of the capital city, Hanoi.
Earlier, Motorola (News - Alert) had successfully deployed a 2G network for Vinaphone. The company competed in an open tender to win the key Northern areas of Vinaphone’s 3G network. Vinaphone considers the key city area of Hanoi as a very important part of its plan and is looking forward to work with Motorola to enhance its services in that region.
Motorola will upgrade Vinaphone’s GSM network with 3G radio access network equipment in northern Viet Nam in the next one year. With this project, Vinaphone is looking to have cost effective network solutions from Motorola.
“As a leading player in the communications network market, Motorola is committed to providing advanced and high quality mobile technologies to the very competitive Viet Nam market,” said Dr. Ray Owen (News - Alert), general director of Motorola Viet Nam, “Winning the 3G network deployment project for the most important city in Viet Nam – Hanoi - in an open tender shows the leading price and performance we can achieve with our advanced network solutions.”
With this 3G deployment, the subscribers of Vinaphone will get high speed mobile data services and the company can also strengthen its position in the Viet Nam market. Motorola’s Home & Networks Mobility business caters to the full value chain of mobile and entertainment service providers. It also allows the operators to provide personalized media mobility experiences to users anywhere they go.
In June of 2008, the company announced contracts worth $28 million with Viet Nam Posts and
Telecommunications Group for the expansion of the Vinaphone GSM network across 12 Northern provinces in Viet Nam in a signing ceremony held in Washington. Under the agreements, Motorola said that more than 1,000 cell sites will be deployed in northern Viet Nam.
