Sneak Preview of Embarcadero's RAD Studio 2010
By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor
Embarcadero Technologies recently announce that it is conducting the second sneak preview of its RAD Studio 2010. One of three previews, this version illustrates the manner in which RAD Studio 2010 helps developers in creating GUI tablet, touchpad and kiosk solutions, according to the company.
One of the new functionalities incorporated in Embarcadero’s RAD Studio 2010 is the ability to formulate easily gesture and touch enabled applications. RAD Studio 2010 also allows developers to jump start their initiatives as it comes with more than 30 built in gestures like left, right, up, down, scratch out and more interactive 3-D gestures like pan, zoom and rotate.
Developers can also make use of the VCL gesture designer to append tailor made gestures right at the basic level and the virtual touch, multi locale and multi language keyboard for faster on-screen input. RAD Studio 2010 also allows easier upgradation for applications which are currently based on Delphi and C++ Builder so that they are compatible with touch and gesture inputs and that too with minimal coding.
What sets apart the touch development support in RAD Studio 2010 is that it blends in smoothly and is compatible with several variants of popular operating system Windows. The new application works well on Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7 among others. It also has the capability to read a broad array of input devices like single and multi touch screens, pens and mouse.
Michael Swindell, vice President of products at Embarcadero Technologies, said “Touch is now a reality and can deliver far more interactive user experiences. From kiosks and Point of Sale to the iPhone (News - Alert) and Windows 7, enabling gestures into every application is becoming a key competitive advantage as consumers and businesses recognize the benefits of natural input.”
The company is planning to deliver an uncomplicated channel for incorporating touch and gestures in any applications which will also be compatible with multiple Windows operating systems. Embarcadero also intends to develop and promote Delphi’s position as the preferred language and platform for all interactive user focused applications.
The latest set of gesture innovations will aid users of Embarcadero’s All Access. It will also help users to choose any one of four All Access levels while they decide the extent of on call access they require from the Embarcadero tool chest.
