FCC Filing Reveals Larger Jawbone JAMBOX Bluetooth Speaker
By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor
CNET News reporter Justin Yu has uncovered a filing from the FCC (News - Alert) that reveals that headset maker Jawbone is readying a larger version of JAMBOX portable Bluetooth speaker. According to CNET’s Yu, it will be called Big JAMBOX. In fact, this information was first reported by Wireless Goodness.
However, as per the report, the FCC documents reveal very little about the device, other than its use for a Bluetooth application. Yu wrote that the current JAMBOX product measures 151-mm x 57-mm x 40-mm and weighs only 347 grams (12oz).
The small size indicates that the Jawbone JAMBOX portable Bluetooth speaker is designed for travelers, wrote Yu. Depending on its size, the larger speaker will likely compete with larger iPod/iPhone speakers like the Fluance FiSDK500 and the Logitech S715i, according to CNET’s report.
Comparing it with the 30-pin iOS dock connector on larger iPod speakers,Yu thinks it is a tough competition for Bluetooth's sonic limitations. “So it is possible that Jawbone will include a dock in the new build,” wrote Yu.
According to Android (News - Alert) Police, Big JAMBOX has 12 hours of battery life, which is two hours more than JAMBOX. Unlike the original JAMBOX, it comes with a wall power adapter and offers a wireless range of 33 feet, as per the report posted on AndroidPolice.com site. Other details provided include a 3.5 mm audio cable, and 60 inches USB cable. The report indicates that Big JAMBOX can fill any room with high-quality sound.
Media reports indicate that the product is listed on Amazon.com (News
- Alert).
