Spirent and EdenTree Bring Lab Environment to VoIP Testing Solution
By Erik Linask Group Managing Editor
As the IP
communications space continues to evolve, developers of both hardware and software often struggle to find new customer pools. It’s not for a lack of quality product, nor for a lack of marketing talent or effort, but largely because of the growing number of vendors competing in the same space. Furthermore, as an increasing number of businesses and service providers enhance their service delivery platforms, they are hard pressed to find solutions that are easily combined into a single, easy to manage platform.
To overcome these hurdles, many vendors are teaming to co-market their products, effectively doubling their potential customer bases and, perhaps more importantly, creating a broader solution that allows customers to minimize their search time. Which is just what Spirent Communications (News - Alert) and EdenTree Technologies have agreed. Under a newly announced deal, Spirent, which develops network analysis and management solutions, will resell EdenTree’s Lab Manager solution as part of its TestCenter Extreme Automation solution.
Spirent TestCenter is a combination of hardware and software designed to reduce testing time and costs by increasing the increasing testing speed as well as enhancing testing functionality. With TestCenter, service providers and enterprises alike are able to effectively test a variety of network configurations during all phases of network development, ensuring all network components and devices are optimally configured for maximum performance.
EdenTree’s lab management solution provides an effective complement to the test solution, providing an easily integrated software solution that allows customers to manage, schedule, track, and configure network resources. In fact, one of the key components of the solution includes the capacity to manage both test equipment and the network devices and components being tested using a user-friendly GUI and API
. The effective result is a lab test environment, without actually requiring a lab, to enable on-site or remote design and scheduling of automated test processes. The automation feature, in fact, is key in today’s communications environment, where time critical, and the ability to automate previously manual processes is more valuable than ever, allowing testing to run overnight, or leaving developers and engineers to attend to other matters.
“Manually reconfiguring test-beds is an inefficient use of critical resources,” explained Rob Piconi, Spirent Communications’ COO. “In EdenTree, we recognized a strong alignment with Spirent’s strategy to help customers achieve optimal efficiency in deployment of their capital.”
Under the arrangement, EdenTree’s Lab Manager will be sold by Spirent’s global sales team, matching a productivity test solution with a software controlled solution for managing and scheduling activities, including enhanced visibility into resource use to enable more intelligent investments in additional equipment.
“Pairing our easy-to-deploy Lab Manager software with Spirent TestCenter Extreme Automation creates a real 1+1=3 equation,” said Jay Oyakawa, CEO of EdenTree Technologies (News - Alert). “Together, these tools enable customers to quickly develop and execute tests in an environment that drives shorter development and deployment cycles.”
As communications technologies continue to evolve, and despite efforts to simplify processed and applications, the inevitable result is an increasingly complex network environment, requiring a test solution capable of adapting to that evolution. The combination of Spirent and EdenTree provides an integrated solution designed to do just that, allowing for a more efficient testing process and reducing time to market with proven products and services.
