Digi Unveils Connect ME 9210 Linux Embedded Device Server

Digi International has introduced its new Digi Connect ME 9210 with Digi Embedded Linux, the latest version of Linux optimized for development on Digi embedded modules and microcontrollers.

The Digi Connect ME 9210 module is about the size of a pair of dice, offering small-form-factor Ethernet connectivity for areas where space is at a premium.

“The Digi Connect ME 9210 with Linux enables Linux development in small devices like programmable logic controllers (PLCs), power distribution units (PDUs) and building environment controls,” said Joel Young, CTO and senior vice president of research and development at Digi International (News - Alert), in a statement.

Young continued: “We support development and enhancement in Digi Embedded Linux to ensure our modules and microprocessors are fully integrated into Linux. This provides customers a single source of Linux support for Digi’s products.”

Digi Connect ME 9210Digi Embedded Linux can support version 2.6.26 of the Linux kernel, which includes Digi Package Manager. This feature allows updates, enhancements and bug fixes which can be downloaded and installed in Digi ESP, an Eclipse-based development environment for Linux.

The new Digi Connect ME9210 gives customers more speed and memory on a device server with a 75 MHz ARM9 processor, 8MB RAM and 2 or 4 MB Flash. It features peripheral interfaces like 10/100 Ethernet, serial, SPI, I2C, GPIO, CAN, 1-wire and integrated Flexible Interface Modules (FIMs). FIMs offer custom interfaces for making modules that match user’s application needs.

The Digi Connect ME9210 has an integrated NIST-certified AES accelerator for providing secure network communication. It offers 10 times more encryption speeds compared to software only solutions. Its unique power functionality offers power-over-Ethernet (PoE) support for designing devices which do not need external power. It features Digi Dynamic Power Control which is a complete set of hardware and software product designs required for less power consumption and better power management.

Digi Connect ME 9210 is based on Digi’s latest NS9210 ARM9 microprocessor and is capable of supporting extended lifecycle of embedded products. The NET (News - Alert)+OS operating system supports secure networking protocols like IPv6, SNMPv3 and SSL for longer life. It is also pin compatible and interchangeable with the Digi Connect ME and Digi Connect Wi-ME.

Digi specializes in device networking for businesses and it develops products and technologies to connect and manage local and remote electronic devices over the network or across the Web.
