Sony Ericsson Intros iPass Mobile Office to Global Remote Workforce
By Anuradha Shukla TMCnet Contributing Editor
iPass (News - Alert) today announced that Sony Ericsson is rolling out its “Mobile Office” to a global remote workforce that spans Sweden, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, India, Japan, China and the United States.
iPass officials say that Mobile Office unifies mobility management over any Internet connection. Working to optimize mobile access, centrally manage mobile devices and connections, the service controls the end-user organisation’s mobility expenses, according to the company. When users connect via the iPassConnect mobility manager, it delivers a simple and consistent user experience over all Internet connections, multiple access technologies and various laptop and handheld device platforms, company officials say.
Rene Hendrikse, a managing director at iPass, said that customers such as Sony Ericsson (News - Alert) need a solution that gives their mobile workers the flexibility to access corporate resources on the road, while having the necessary tools to keep a hold on costs.
Hendrikse said that his company has a very strong local team to support the business in Northern Europe plus an extensive network of iPass-ready broadband locations around the world. The company looks forward to working further with Sony Ericsson (News - Alert) in the future as their access requirements develop, he said.
According to iPass, enterprises with large mobile workforces prefer their solution due to its high level of usability and expansive global Wi-Fi network. The iPass network now includes more than 100,000 Wi-Fi hotspots (including more than 50,000 in Europe) and coverage in over 550 unique airports, according to the company. The company also says it provides comprehensive training programs as part of service deployment, including customized online training and an on-site global helpdesk support program.
