CyberPatrol Acquires Emerald, Eyes Better Parental Control
By Raju Shanbhag TMCnet Contributing Editor
Newly Formed CyberPatrol LLC Acquires Emerald Technology, Inc.
Seeking to offer more parental control filtering capabilities, CyberPatrol LLC today announced that it has acquired Emerald Technology, Inc.
CyberPatrol’s “Parental Controls” software is expected to make use of the Emerald Technology’s proprietary filtering technology, according to the companies.
Providing a smaller, faster download on each PC, Emerald’s proprietary technology is based on the server, company officials say. With it, end users have immediate access to the most current lists of both good and bad sites, since the technology features automatic updates to end-users and list updates every hour, company officials say. Unwanted content is avoided as the CyberPatrol customers gain access to the technologies, they say.
Emerald Technology’s products will continue to be sold under the CyberPatrol brand, company officials say. The CyberPatrol LLC organization team is now strengthened by Jason Short, founder and president of Emerald Technology, company officials say, and Michael McDonald. Short heads up the research department as vice-president of research.
“Joining CyberPatrol LLC is a great opportunity for Emerald Technology,” Short said. “We have been building and growing our filtering technology for seven years and it is exciting to know that the depth of research and capabilities our technology provides can now be used to protect so many people through the CyberPatrol product. Today, CyberPatrol is one of the leading parental controls products on the market. Now, combined with our powerful filtering capabilities I look for it to become the number one provider in a very short period of time. The depth and breadth of our database cannot be matched.”
